The onsen experience was nice over all! The room had great futons, but the breakfast could use more attention-everything felt ransacked when we got there 😬

Magnificent location of the hotel to walk around the area. Short walk to Matsumoto art museum, the castle and the old street, the Yohashira Shrine and the Nakamachi neighbourhood beyond, and the castle and lots of restaurants close by. Enjoyable and delicious breakfast with both Japanese and western food, excellent service...
Beds were slightly uncomfortable.

Super location with proximity to the castle. Very friendly staff
The burned house in front of our room. Furnishings are a little old-fashioned.

The best hotel of our trip! staff are extremely attentive and helpful. Breakfast very good. Onsen in the cellar excellent. Washing machine and dryer with self-service until 20:00. Cafe with good selection of cakes available. Various coffee specialities. Coffee voucher for ecological behaviour (e.g. towel change only if required). Very close to the castle.

The rooms were quite small and tired-looking, not up to par for a 4-star hotel. I expected special treatment but instead dealt with outdated facilities and a laughable breakfast spread. I almost gave them a good review but just couldn't. Shame on you, Hotel Kagetsu!

Charming stay with good hospitality
Upon arrival, I was greeted with a cup of iced green tea and snacks while the staff handled check-in. The room was spacious, cozy, and infused with natural light. The perfect location allowed us to stroll to Matsumoto Castle and nearby art galleries within minutes. Breakfast was the highlight with beautifully presented dishes, showcasing quality local ingredients. Their Kaiseki lunch also deserves special mention, as we indulged in extraordinary flavors that perfectly represented Japanese dining.

Best hotel I booked in Japan. Colonial style, hospitality as it would be unthinkable in Germany, top breakfast, truly perfection.

Most members of stuff were very kind. Soon I am coming again to this hotel. Nice Japanese style breakfast. Easy to find from railway station.

The staff helped us to unload and then parked our car for us. Great service. The room was a little small, which didn't bother us for one night. We had a high-quality equipment (chic kettle, noble cups, ..). The bathroom was a little cramped. The castle is just around the corner, less than a five minute walk.
The beds were very hard. For large people (over 1.80m) the bathroom is too small, especially the shower too low.

Great staff and nice onsen to relax. I also liked the breakfast buffet, but more specialized in Japanese dishes, which I personally really like. Major attractions are within walking distance. for 800 yen you can take a taxi from the train station to the hotel, which as for me is normal.
The WiFi could be a little better.

Super handy smartphone which is provided! Good location and lobby and restaurant were quite appealing.
Already is a bit old dated what was not really apparent on the photos but everything was still super ok.
